Going to Heaven

Dear people,
Hi I am Scott Garys son. My dad is dead and in heaven right now. He was my best friend I had in my life. He was the only person that played with me when I was sad. So now we will go on and stay strong. He died April 4, 2009 6:00pm. He was then best father a son could have. We will keep typing about our family. But with out him we are not a familly. The last thing I heard from him was " I love you Scotty and stay strong". Today is the worst day of my life. And god wanted him to come and live with him forever and I hope something will be good to us. He was a good man and I love and I am pouring tears and can not stop. He did nothing bad to god or us. To the Latham family in Novi Michigan this is the worst day of our life. If you are reading this don't cry. Dad if you are reading this i love you even if your dead. Bye and have a good night. My familly is miserable with out him. Stay strong people.

I have been reading this blog several times a days, and although I knew the gravity of the situation, I was not prepared for Scott's blog. I have tried not to cry, but the tears continue to come. I cry for those remaining in this world. For Tammy, Craig, Hannah and Scott and Gary's parents and sisters. This is a sad time for all and I pray for strength for all.

I love all of Gary's family. Gary has a lot of loving relatives in heaven to greet him. He will be well taken care of.

Craig, Hannah and Scott,
We know how much your father loved his family – you all were his pride and joy. We can remember how he’d smile with pride whenever he talked about you. He will still be smiling down on you but now it will be from heaven. Your dad was a fabulous man and touched so many lives. We feel blessed to have known him. Words cannot express how sad we are but we believe that he is in a great place with God. Your dad will always hold a very special place in our hearts.

Tammy, you have been such a supportive wife. Your strength, positive attitude and faith must have been an immense comfort to Gary. We will continue praying for you all and are here for you if you ever need us.

Love,

Words cannot express how sorry we are. It does not seem right for the world to go on but we have all seen the Latham Love and know that it does because it is strong. And know that you are here to teach us what a family really is. Craig - I know it is hard to understand but you have been blessed - Some people live a life time and never experience the love and friendship that you have in this short time with your Dad. We should all be so blessed.

"Like the ripples in a pond, the work of one man can spread out and touch the lives of many others". Your father's courage, faith and undying love for you touched all of us. He will remain in our hearts forever.

It's hard to understand why things like this happen, and it's OK to be angry. God always has a plan, but we just don't know what that is sometimes. Please keep writing on the blog. It will help you to heal. Write your feelings. Write funny stories about your dad. Write whatever you wish. And know that we are all reading it, and sharing in your sorrow.

Dear Lathams,

By holding him in your heart, he will stay with you forever. He certainly can be seen shining through the three amazing children he has helped create.
When I read about Gary this morning, it made me think of a poem I saw once:
A butterfly lights
like a sunbean,
And for a brief moment
its glory and beauty
belong to our world.

But, then it flies on again,
and though we wish
it could have stayed,
we feel so fortunate
to have seen it.

Wishing you strength and the love of family and friends to bring you comfort at this most difficult time.

Your dad and husband is a great man. When my boy played soccer with Craig I had a chance to speak with Gary a lot. He loves all of you so much! We also spoke a lot about his faith in Jesus. As you know your dad and husband was a big believer. When my dad passed away what helped me a ton was picturing Jesus hugging him. It might sound strange, but my dad went through things very similar to Gary and to picture him not in pain and so happy hugging Jesus made me feel better. I also knew they both would be rooting me on from heaven. I believe that's what is happening with your dad and Jesus right now. They are hugging and looking down rooting all of you on!!! God Bless you all!!

To the Latham Family,

We are truly saddened to hear about Gary’s passing as well, and pray that God will provide an extra measure of comfort to all of you over the coming days and weeks. I can’t really begin to imagine the feelings of loss you all have right now.

Gary was such an upbeat, positive person, who seemingly could find something good in almost everything that happened, whether it was a disappointing loss by his beloved Wolverines or the personal health setbacks that came his way later in life. I really don’t know how he did it, because I don’t see things that way myself most of the time. He will certainly be missed. I just hope that, over time, God can give each of you some of that gift that Gary had. And I hope you can find some peace and comfort in knowing that he touched all these lives, and all these people (like us) wish to support you at this tough time. Our family will be keeping you in our prayers as long as needed.

Dear Scott

Your words have given us a gift: You were able to tell us that your dad means everything to you, that his death is so incredibly unfair, that he never did anything wrong to God or anyone else, how his death has changed your family forever.

That you are able to say those words is amazing. I think Craig and Hannah and mommy have those feelings too, so you are the voice of the Latham Love.

I believe that God is hurting as much as you are, and that He cried just like I did when he read what you said. Let yourself hurt. Let yourself be held by the people who love you. The Bible says there is a time for everything, and this is your time to feel all that you feel, even though it hurts way more than you could ever imagine.

When you love someone, you feel all kinds of feelings, mostly happy ones. But also feelings that hurt so badly you cannot believe it. We love because we are children of God, who made us with those feelings. And God loves us always, especially when we cannot understand why horrible things happen that cause us so much pain.

Andrei and Carley feel very sad that your dad died; we looked at your picture in the church directory and prayed that you will keep writing about how you feel whenever the time is right for you.

Tammy, Craig and Hannah: The Lord is your shepherd; He wants to comfort your soul. Our hearts grieve with yours,

Scotty, we feel terrible about your father's death, and we think that God shouldn't have let him die. He is probably up in heaven right now, thinking about his family. We really liked your dad. He was always nice to us.

Scotty,
You and I have never met but I found your blog through someone who posted on another site asking for prayers for your family. My dad passed away when I was 8 years old - 26 years ago. Know that you'll have a special Angel watching over you forever! Give your Mom lots of hugs and kisses. Your dad would be VERY proud of you for being such a strong boy and letting everyone know how much you love him. I will pray for all of you! God Bless you Sweetie!

Dear Latham family,

The service today was deeply touching. Your grief was heartbreaking but your stories were heartwarming and inspirational. I do not believe there is a dry eye in Novi today as we remember a truly beautiful soul. You should be so proud of yourselves and must always remember how special we all think you are.

Much love to you all.

Dear scotty,

I am truely amazed at how mature you've become. Writting your thoughts and feelings can be hard to do but will help you through this difficult time in your life. I'm positive your father is smiling down at you from heaven saying, "I'm so proud of my brave young son!" He was always there for you and he always will, as he remains with you in your heart. Keep faith and always hold dear to what he's taught you. You will never forget him and neither will I. He is still here for all of us.

Love,

Kevin Kacan
